Costa Rica (February) 2005
Days 2 - 5

We arrived late the first night, so we'll start on Day 2

Day 2 we traveled from San Jose (Costa Rica) by plane, then by taxi
to Golfito. From Golfito by boat to the Rainbow Lodge on Golfito Dulce.

At Rainbow we visited a few other places and some other places of interest, we put these on their own page. Those items are:

  • Buena Vista

The Rainbow Lodge comes into view

Rainbow by day

Open dining area at the main lodge.

You can see the wonderful reference library in the background.

All the rooms are open to the outdoors - the sounds of birds, insects, monkeys and the sea are hypnotic and delightful.

Touring grounds and surrounding area.

Sea nymphs at high tide

Scarlet Macaws enjoying breakfast in "beach almond" tree.

There is no way to describe how brilliantly colored the wild birds are. Much lovelier than any seen in captivity.

Later in our trip we discovered these birds (6) had been successfully released into the wild where they had disappeared completely.

(We got to spend time with the people who accomplished this.)

Reid & Robin's snorkeling adventure. Although the water was very clear, there was little to see.

Lisa's walking snork adventure, these fish were in about 8 inches of water.

Robin enjoying the view on our way to the river/mangrove

Simone, our 13 year old translator. Robin speaks fluent Spanish, but we liked having Simone with us.

An extremely mature (and charming) 13 year old.

Sunset on the river

and in the Gulf

Lisa wading in the 85 degree ocean
Howler Monkeys on the grounds of Rainbow

Notice the stripe on this guy's tail. It happens but is not common.

Notice how worried (not) he is that we are there.

Don't you just want to kiss my cute face?

Simone leading the way to the waterfall.

Much "cooler" than the ocean

Look what Robin found roosting in the rafters of the other cabina!

A fairly small insectivorous sac winged bat.

On Lou's birthday. It is traditional to get smashed in the head with a raw egg for every year. Obviously this is done when you aren't looking. Lou only got hit twice.

We recommend this place!!!
