Costa Rica 2000

Day 2 we stayed at Bosque De Paz (Forest of Peace) - it felt like coming home!

The main lodge facing the dining area (on the left) and the entrance (on the right).
A view of the lodge from the back with the guest rooms on the left side. We got the same room we had last year!

View of the main lodge from the small bridge over the stream.

This is when we started to plan our next trip to Costa Rica. We want to spend more time at Bosque, time at Mario's Finca - how will we ever be able to squeeze it all in and have time to rest?

Outside the lodge looking across the stream into the meadow with the forest in the background.

Quite a nice front yard!

Bosque De Paz is possibly the most beautiful spot on earth. Peaceful and beautiful with so many birds and so much wildlife.

Looking up the stream toward the meadow on the left with forest on far left and right.
We used leaves from this plant when we were caught out in a rain storm. The natives call the plant "three man umbrella plant ".
Walking the trail into the primary forest. Can you imagine what the critters thought about this croup of explorers???
Large tree being surrounded by vines, which is normal for trees in the primary forest. The outer growth will eventually overtake the inner tree which will rot away.
Fredrico hacks our path through the undergrowth. Some of the plants grow 3 feet a day. Because of this, constantly cutting back the growth is a must or you will loose the trail within days.
The climb down, out of the primary forest into the secondary forest was an exciting downhill adventure, after our up hill battle. Lisa both slid down on her backside and bounced down face first in a meadow. Graceful as always.
Into the secondary forest, still on our downhill adventure. We all managed to slip and fall at least once on the wet surface.

Right outside the lodge -

First there were one, then two, then.....a herd of Coatis!

You can see the Agouti in the background, upper left - waiting his turn at the food dish. Nobody wants to mess with a hungry Coati. Very sharp claws and very sharp teeth.
Looks sweet enough but you would be surprised...
....this is a wild animal, however, "Juan" does allow Fredrico to feed him bananas.
Some moths we saw in the evening and early morning.
They look just like leaves or bark but did not seem to notice that they were on a sheet.

At the start of the day, we came to the lodge for coffee and breakfast. A meal fit for royalty. The best coffee and the best food in all the world!

Aside from being the greatest and warmest hosts, the Pintos serve the most delicious food we have ever tasted.

At the end of the day, we were soaked, muddy, and ready for a cold beer and warm shower.

(Bob, Linda, Fredrico (our wonderful guide), Lisa & Reid).

This picture was after our downhill adventure...
Why do Bob and Linda look much better than Reid and Lisa?
How did Linda always manage to look like Julia Roberts?
